Tyre Pyrolysis Oil (TPO)
  • The main oil product produced by pyrolysis technology is the fuel oil that is widely used for industrial and commercial purposes
  • Several studies have reported that the yield of oil from the pyrolysis of tyres reached a maximum at 475°C at 58.2 wt. % and that the yield of oil decreased with increasing temperature
  • The liquids obtained are dark brown coloured products, resembling petroleum fractions
  • The carbon residue result for the tyre oil is 0.85% which is a measure of the tendency of the oil to form carbon
  • Centane Number (CN) is a measure of a fuel's ignition delay; the time period between the start of injection and the first identifiable pressure increase during combustion of the fuel and
  • Fuels with higher CN will have shorter ignition delay periods than fuels with lower CN
  • Pyrolysis of scrap tyres produces oil that can be used as liquid fuels for industrial furnaces, foundries and boilers in power plants due to their higher calorific value, low ash, residual carbon and sulphur content
Steel Scrap
  • Waste tyre pyrolysis can also generate scrap steel wire due to the fact that steel wires can be used as reinforcement agent for tyre
  • Tyres contain steel wires and the amount ranges from 10%-15% of the total tyre weight
  • Steel present in the tyre can be detached after the pyrolysis recycling process is completed
Carbon Black
  • Carbon black is non-pyrolyzable material, thus, remains as residue after the tyre pyrolysis process
  • It takes up around 30% of the original tyre mass and is used for strengthening the tyre rubber and aid abrasion resistance of tyre
  • Carbon Black as a substitute of industrial grade carbon black which is more economical compared to carbon black produced primarily from petroleum and is more price-efficient
  • Carbon black is used as raw material or main ingredient in many industries and the chemical structure of carbon black strengthens, lengthens the endurance, and improves the coloring features of the materials
Non-condensable Gases
  • Waste tyre pyrolysis is a complex reaction that produces light hydrocarbons which do not condense at room temperature and pressure
  • These gases mainly comprise of CO₂, CO, H₂, CH₄, C₂H₆, C₃H₆
  • Carbon Black as a substitute of industrial grade carbon black which is more economical compared to carbon black produced primarily from petroleum and is more price-efficient
